During the fall 2012 semester, a class of Rice University undergraduate students built an open source Nortd Labs laser cutter, called the Lasersaur. Professor Mike Beradino taught the Art of DIY course, which brought a team of artists and engineers together to experiment and learn. After a month and a half of building, the DIY class completed a working Lasersaur for university use. Students from across disciplines will be using the lasersaur in the coming years.
The Rice students involved include Olivia Derr, Emily Wang, Sophie Eichner, Claire O'Malley, Angela Masciale, Juan Borbon and Samantha Calvetti.
